The Winter 2009 edition of KEI's gallery paid tribute to Vocaloids and Voiceroids, both young and old alike. And though that's kind of expected from KEI at this point, there were still tidbits from other popular games and series like Toradora and Love Plus all done in the artist's very recognizable style.
Hiiro Yuki's main release for Comiket 77 was Fabularisia Minus Art Works 1999-2009 which is a full color, hardcover collection for ten years of illustrations. He also released a second, small doujinshi from his continuing Snow Drawing Works 2009 series that will also be covered in this post, since I feel it's not heavy enough on illustrations to warrant its own post ^^;
I hadn't intended to buy White Blend Coffee Kizoku Artworks mostly because I had already seen scans of the doujinshi early on and knew it didn't interest me. But what I did want was Hiiro Yuki's Fabularisia, and I ended up winning an auction that included both for cheap, so now I have it anyways ^^;
Takoyaki's moe girl styling strikes again in another full color illustration collection called Observe, released at this past Comiket 77. Takoyaki is really one of the few artists out that that seems to be able to consistently deliver a full color illustration doujinshi each Comiket, and the quality is as always top notch.
Prior to this Comiket 77 release, my most recent exposure to the artist YahaKo came from her Vocaloid theme doujinshi RE: UNION, which was released at Voc@loid M@ster 9. Eight Fortune 01, or EF 01 for short, is interesting in that while it still contains Vocaloid art work, YahaKo moves slowly into original territory with a gorgeous original cover girl named Blue Night who will be serving as the mascot for the artist's circle.
I feel like Koutaro (こうたろ) is one of those artists where you may not know the name, but you've definitely seen his work. If you tuned into the girls baseball anime Taishō Yakyū Musume last year, then you were looking at his adapted character designs. Operating under the circle name Nijiiro Zakura, Nijiiro Densho is the 5th colorful illustration book released in this series.
Korean artists CUTEG and Piah jointly released a collection of glasses girls illustrations (which are also nearly all fan arts) called Meganeko (メガネ子) at the past Comiket 77. It's full color, and inside you have the chance to see everyone from Hatsune Miku to Yuki Nagato sporting cute and classy frames.
Touhou Souka is a collection of illustrations of Touhou girls pictured with flowers that match their looks and personalities by the circle Lunade Luna. I hadn't purchased anything by the circle before, but I did look up Nabeshima Tetsuhiro's vast array of Touhou art work before hand, so I was pretty clear on what to expect.
I was really excited to see the new work from Aka Ringo based on the preview images for Hanamaru and the excellence of the previous AZ + PLAY winter Comiket publication, 0 [LOVE]. So for me personally, the bar was set a little too high and Hanamaru fell way down under it.
12 Color Girls is a collaboration doujinshi between Spice and Wolf light novel illustrator Ayakura Juu and an artist I was previously unfamiliar with, Daizan. This full color collection features girls making use of various everyday school supplies like staplers, paper, tape and so on, in rather creative ways.
Kurogin (黒銀) wasn't an artist I was following, but I'd recently seen his work in Dragon Magazine for Chrome Close Chronicle so my interest was peaked. And it was extra lucky that Kurogin's C77 doujinshi was aptly titled Archive Illustrations which included primarily his color works from 2006 through 2009, so I was able to get a very extensive introduction to this artist's work.
Though it's an artist I've skipped in the past, I decided to grab Aoki Sin's's newest illustration collection, COLORS 7 from Comiket 77. I think it's in part due to his increased exposure, seeing his art work featured in both Megami Creators and 100 Masters of Bishojo Painting really helped to rekindle my interests. That, and his change in coloring style are making Aoki Sin one artist to watch out for ^^
